Another VERY IMPORTANT reason to vote for McCain
As if taxes, spending, Supreme Court justices, checks and balances, and socialized medicine weren’t enough, there’s Card Check.
For those who are unfamiliar with the proposal, the Employee Free Choice Act takes away the secret ballot requirement now in place to form a union at a workplace. Currently the procedure involves some employee inviting a union to come in to a workplace, a secret ballot being taken, and if a majority of employees vote YES, a union is formed. If this law passes, it only requires a majority of employees to sign a card in order to unionize.
Doesn’t sound that much different you say? Well, imagine that when you are asked to sign that card, your immediate hourly supervisor, a couple of union reps, and maybe a few other union employees are standing there telling you to do it. They threaten that if you refuse, the place will be unionized anyway and you will get the worst duties, the worst hours, etc. That will all be legal!
I’m NOT a fan of unions. They had their place at one time, but now they are just an intimidation group that basically socializes the workforce. My husband, with little choice, is a member of a union at his workplace. Maybe one day I will share my rant of why unions are bad for morale, productivity, creativity, and customers.
Long story short: Card Check is bad. So says the USA Today. They even say that the only way to stop Card Check is for John McCain to be elected. It has already passed the House. It will probably pass the Senate after this election. And no one will be in the White House to stop it if Obama is there.
The only reason that the unions want Card Check is because they have seen their rolls diminishing over the years. They are losing influence because they have less money to throw towards Democrats that they get from dues. That’s all the unions want — more dues to regain their power.
By the way, Ed at the Hot Air link notes that this act has a measure that allows the GOVERNMENT to implement a contract in the case of a strike. Guess which side will be favored if the Democrats are in office?
