The 95% Myth

After reading this article at Hot Air about the progressive tax system, I wondered about the table contained inside.  Obama says he’s going to cut taxes on “95% of taxpayers.”  His income level for upper 5% starts at $250,000 for families, $200,000 for individuals.

Now, look at the table.  It shows that the 2007 numbers put the 5% income level at just $145,000.

Joe Wurzelbacher of all people warned this would happen.  Media would constantly point out Obama’s tax plan would benefit Joe personally the most.  However, Joe pointed out in an interview I saw him do with someone on FNC that there was nothing to stop Obama from declaring “rich” was down to $150,000 instead.

This table provides him the perfect excuse.

By the way, if you read the Hot Air article, the numbers cited in the paragraph just after the quote are wrong.  I believe the author was looking at the AGI percentages, not the percent of taxes paid.  It is actually much worse.  The bottom 50% of income earners pay only 3% of all of the income taxes.  The top 1%?  They pay almost 40%.
