I partake in Black Friday sales quite often. I don’t know why, because people don’t care about anyone but themselves. They yap on the phone while standing in front of whatever I am looking for. They push you out of the way to get to the item they want. It’s awful.
But not as horrible as this. A Wal-Mart worker was killed today, trampled by people trying to get to the bargains. He was just there on the floor gasping for breath while people continued to run over him. They continued to shop as he was taken out dying on the gurney. People don’t care about anyone but themselves anymore.

I hope everyone is enjoying time with family and eating a lot of food! Please keep all of those military members who are serving abroad without the benefit of being surrounded by their family members in your thoughts.
Michelle Malkin has a column out today on a somewhat forgotten tradition — self reliance. Just a little something to chew on while you’re … chewing.

I’ve been following the attacks all day, and Hot Air has collected a lot of the information in one good post, so I thought I’d link it.

The student association at Carleton University in Ottawa, ON, Canada has voted to drop cystic fibrosis research as the recipient of its annual fundraising effort dubbed Shinearama. The reason? The disease is racist. It mostly affects Caucasian men. The student association feels that if they are asking students from across the campus to donate to a cause, it should be “inclusive.”
What they don’t realize is Caucasian doesn’t just mean white. It can mean Middle Eastern, South Asian, North African as well as Anglo. Many of these people don’t have “white” skin, but they are still affected by the disease. At least the student newspaper sees this for what it is — political correctness run amok.

I’m a firm believer of the adage, “The media giveth and the media taketh away.” Look at the countless celebrities that are built up only to be pounced upon at the slightest misstep. And what about people like Joe the Plumber who was thrust into the spotlight after asking a simple question? Or Ashley Smith, who was torn down after it was learned she gave her captor meth as well as prayer during her hostage ordeal to calm him down. And we can’t soon forget the excitement of Sarah Palin’s pick as VP nominee followed by the assassination of her and her family’s character.
This happens to most newly-minted media darlings. Well, except one. Barack Obama. None of the MSM cared to look into his past very thoroughly. But I think his fall from grace is coming. First, he appointed numerous throwbacks to the Clinton era to his cabinet. Then, he said the tax hike on the rich will probably be delayed. Now, he says that he’s keeping Gatesas SecDef.
The MSM LOVED Obama precisely for his anti-Iraq war stance. Keeping ANY remnants from the perceived war-mongering Bush administration is bound to piss them off. This on top of his going back on the “change” and “tax the rich” mantras with his pronouncements so far has gotten them whispering, “Maybe he isn’t The One.” Just wait ’til he breaks the news on universal sick care.
I think once we get through this economic meltdown, which is being worsened by governmental actions, we’ll see a gradual flow of anti-Obama stories coming on the scene from the likes of MSNBC and the NY Times. We’ll see someone dig up his Columbia thesis and grades, or maybe that anti-Israel tape will surface. If he doesn’t do what he was selected elected to do, I see the MSM unleashing their wrath on him around midterm elections.

The Freedom of Choice act, a sweeping piece of abortion-on-demand legislation, would also force abortions upon hospitals, including the thousand or so Catholic-run ones. Laura Ingraham talked about this on her radio show yesterday, and it was brought up that Catholics who would go through med school would also be forced to learn the process, something I gathered from the conversation was optional now. That would prevent many Catholics from even entering the profession.
In Austin, I remember a few years back when our big hospital that was used for all cases, no matter payment ability, was taken over by the St. David’s system for management. The city was forced (not sure how — the details are fuzzy) to take back over a floor of the building to provide women’s services, including abortions and contraceptives, because the St. David’s system wouldn’t provide it. My daughter was born in a St. David’s hospital, and it was a fantastic experience. Half the hospitals in Austin, including one of the best NICU’s central Texas, are part of the St. David’s system and would likely close if this law was put into place.

With 78% of the recount done, Coleman still leads Franken by more than 200 votes. However, more than 3000 ballot have been challenged, so it could be a case of an election board making the decision. Ed over at Hot Air, who lives in Minnesota, believes the board members will be fair. Let’s hope so. Our wallets depend on it.

Laughable. He can’t wait to spend, spend, spend, and blame it all on Bush.

Ugh. This is NEVER going to end. I look at my daughter, who’s two, and wonder what will happen when all this debt comes due when she’s my age.
We had great plans for her, but I don’t want her to be one of those rich Americans who will be forced to pay 75% marginal rates because they need to be “patriotic” to help pay off the tens of trillions of dollars in debt, the cost of health care for the 95%, the federal 401k matching program, ”enhanced” Social Security (even though the new means test means she won’t benefit), the newly federalized K-16 school system, etc, etc, etc.
I could save TONS of money by letting her go to a vocational school to become a meagerly-paid something or other and let her live off the backs of others who foolishly went to a fantastic engineering school and make great money but end up meagerly-paid because the government confiscated it all.
