Wow – H&C no more

So Alan Colmes is leaving “Hannity and Colmes” to possibly develop a weekend show.  He’s still going to do his nightly radio show on Fox News Talk.  He approached the FNC heads about leaving at the beginning of the year, and he’s going to be out by the end of the year.  I’ve never heard him mention children, so my first thought was that he and his wife of five years want to start a family.  His current schedule would probably be unacceptable in a nice liberal family where the men are expected to be complete equals in time with the children no matter what the working situation is.  <slap> I didn’t just say that.  Sorry. :)   BTW, this is just MY wild speculation.  He could be leaving for any reason.

The poll over at TV Newser has Kirsten Powers as the “fan favorite” replacement.  I like her, but the reason I like her is that she has liberal thought, but she actually thinks about things and has often veered from the party line.  Alan Colmes rarely misses a talking point, like Hannity, so I think Kirsten wouldn’t provide the more partisan back and forth that Colmes provides.  Maybe that’s a good thing, but I’m afraid KP would instead be more like Colmes on this show.  She was like that for a little while during the democratic primaries, and I didn’t like her then.  I like her because I have a hard time arguing some of her points.  If they changed the format of the show somewhat, I think she could be suited for the job.

I think Bob Beckel would be a better choice if they wanted the same Hannity and Colmes vibe with a different face.  He’s always got the talking points at hand, and I think he wouldn’t let Hannity get away with some of the things that Colmes does.  But, as Hot Air points out, it would be nice to see a female in that role.

Who knows.  I think the worst thing they could do is put Hannity solo.  While “Hannity’s America” might be highly rated, I think Hannity Solo would be an unfettered hard-right hour that might drive many viewers away.  I really like Hannity, but he repeats himself A LOT.  It drives me crazy sometimes.
