The winds of change

I was listening to all of the hubbub about the Roland Burris appointment this morning.  The players seem to be changing their tunes.

First, “Dingy” Harry Reid backed off his strong statements from the beginning of this fiasco with his lawyerly rhetoric reminiscent of Bill Clinton himself.  He’s backed off even further after the spectacle of yesterday’s denial of entry onto the Senate floor for swearing in.  This was no doubt prompted by the outrageous race-baiting being used by Burris’s “friends” and the leak of Blago’s phone call with the Senate leader.

Then during his press conference today, Obama responded to a question from a reporter by calling this a “Senate issue.”  Initially, he injected himself promptly in the mix, calling for Blago to resign and for him not to appoint anyone.  One administration at a time, eh?

Finally, trying to salvage his own reputation, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White changed his tune as well. After initially making a spectacle on all of the talk shows saying he refused to sign off on Blagojevich’s appointment, he came out today stating his signature is “ceremonial” after Reid rejected Burris due to lack of proper paperwork.

I’m starting to get weary of all this change!
