Promises, promises (updated)

Card check rears its ugly head again.  It seems as if Obama has sent a message to the AFL-CIO meeting down in Florida promising to get card check passed.  I’m hoping this will be one of those promises that he gives lip service to then breaks

And it looks like he might get some help – actually cover — from Senate Dems who seem to be wavering on card check.  Let’s hope so.  If card check passes, it will be the death of many business.  Cap and trade will be the death of most of the rest.

Update: Ed over at Hot Air was able to be on a conference call with his representative in the House, Rep. John Kline.  The discussion was Card Check and an anti-Card Check bill he is proposing.  He answered some questions, and one that got me scared was that right-to-work states would essentially no longer exist if Card Check passed.  Essentially, in some states, even if a shop is unionized, workers are not required to be members.  That’s how it is here in Texas.  This bill would undo that.

Kline did offer a bright spot — Card Check is having a tough time getting backers in the Senate.  It was easy to be for a bill that you KNEW would be vetoed by President Bush.  But when you know it will be signed, it’s hard to support legislation that has such a low approval rating.
