Obama wants “Eminent Income”

Do you remember how everyone got up in arms when the Supreme Court decided that transfer of property from one private individual to another was allowed under eminent domain?  Cities and states were promising to outlaw their own ability to take advantage of the new law to settle fears.

Now, we have Obama wanting to do the same thing.  He wants to take tax monies from private individuals and transfer directly (through tax credits) to other individuals.  This isn’t a new program to allow people to get more food stamps if needed or to allow poor children to attend college.  This is DIRECT transfer of wealth.  Does anyone else see the parallels?

Taxes, when done properly, are a GOOD thing.  They allow us to have good roads, police departments, schools, etc. that are required for a good society.  We all benefit when we collect our money together to build a road to allow access to a city from a rural area, just as when we benefit from a government entity paying the owner fair market value for the land needed for that road.  The rural area individuals have easier access to new businesses and government offices, and the businesses have new customers and government saves some money sending officials to the area when needed.  Those are, well at least used to be, the goals of taxes and eminent domain.

While advocates for lower-income and poor individuals were very much up in arms by the Kelo decision (“blighted” areas tend to be poorer areas), they seem to be cheering Obama’s tax plan.  I guess it’s OK when the government takes from someone else, especially that evil rich person, to give to them.
